CASE STUDY

Enterprise HR Platform Consolidation

Challenge

A Fortune 100 Telecom’s Compensation Organization was a complex milieu of operational processes and 16 legacy systems that could not be maintained using modern software development approaches. These systems combined created a challenging maze for employees who had to learn and work with this context. As effective use of these systems often relied on tacit knowledge, the sheer number of systems they had to interact with was unsustainable.

Approach

I mapped the Methods and Procedures of the organization using standards process mapping approaches and the challenge of those processes gathered from the users of the system. IT support teams were interviewed to get their perspective on the systems and their ease of maintenance. Associated costs for this system were analyzed. Data from M&P, Individual user interviews, and cost data were pulled into a single report outlining the existing state, and defining a proposed future state with decreased complexity due to systems rationalization and shifts in M&P.

Outcome

Cost savings of 2.7M dollars annually in systems rationalization were achieved.  Process and technology changes proposed through a comprehensive analysis of legacy processes lead to additional gains in cost-reduction, ease of use and overall employee satisfaction beyond the scope of the initial project.
