Domain knowledge is important in someone getting up to speed on your business context. That said, the methods of of technology transformation move beyond the boundaries of domain experience. During my tenure I have supported general HR and Compensation technologies, L&D technologies, Telecom and Finance. Each domain had their domain knowledge, but the working knowledge of a domain can be effectively be learned, and is, in fact part of the transformation process. Often those who are “too close” to a domain miss key insights. I move into your domain with no preconceived notions. Transformation transcends domains.
